Learn foreign languages using unusual methods
As an English tutor, Brenda Savoie (living in Canada) shares eight non-traditional but highly effective methods of learning foreign languages.
Airplanes are no longer a luxury vehicle and nothing is better than learning a language in the country where the language is spoken. If you want to learn Spanish, why not try to book a trip to the city of Barcelona and communicate with native speakers yourself?
Not traveling is good at foreign languages but this is definitely an opportunity for you to practice using the language you are learning. When traveling, you have to communicate with native speakers, though it may be embarrassing because the listening is not good. Imagine at home, how many times have you practiced listening and speaking, but when you actually come to use that language, there is no other way but to apply knowledge.
2. Quay Vlog
Have you ever heard of the method of blogging in a foreign language? I suggest you do one more interesting thing, that is, video blogging. With video blogs, you have to shoot short videos directly, sharing everything you care about or everyday life.
Emilia Thorn, an English tutor, once explained that when filming Vlog, you have to do everything yourself, from preparing content, practicing speaking in front of the lens, practicing expressing emotions. If you do these things in the language you are learning, you will improve your skills, especially your ability to speak. In addition, the YouTube user community is always ready to watch videos and give you useful advice to support learning.
3. Read inspiration
Unlike creating poems or stories by yourself, expressing excerpts in the language you are learning is a way to improve pronunciation and help you feel more confident. Did you notice that whenever using any language, native speakers do not use regular tones but will attach emotion. If you're new to speaking, this may not be natural, but through inspiring reading, you can practice this skill.
4. Reading books for children
Do you study Russian because you want to read all the classics of Lev Tolstoy? This is an ambitious goal. Why not start with something simpler, like a children's book?
Reading books for children or comics is a great way to learn grammar, vocabulary, and even help you improve reading comprehension. Many adults think that they are too old or not suitable for this type of book, but at the beginning you should focus on accumulating foreign language knowledge.
5. Watch cooking on YouTube
Food is one of the most fascinating cultural expressions. When learning a foreign language, you are not learning the language but learning the culture and history of the country where the language is used. So, combine the local food cooking programs to practice your foreign language skills and learn about the national culture.
By learning a foreign language through a cooking program, you won't need a dictionary. You can match the vocabulary and cooking techniques in the video to identify the meaning and usage of the word.
6. Play video games
Children are always told to refrain from playing video games, so if I say being able to learn a foreign language through games, you're probably feeling unreasonable. I do not deny the harmful effects of video games but if you know how to use and do not let them fascinate, this will be an effective tool to learn communication.
Video games such as World of Warcraft, Minecraft, Dota 2 require cooperation between the players. Selecting the language in the game is the language you are learning, you will be connected to the group of native speakers.
7. Listen to Podcasts
Podcasts can be considered as a modern radio program, where you can search for interesting talks, talks or discussions. Without regular contact with native speakers, you will not easily grasp the pronunciation, use their words and Podcast is the solution.
Find topics that interest you in the language you want to learn on the Podcast and turn listening into your daily routine. Podcasts are applications available on mobile devices, so you can listen to them anytime, while driving, while taking the bus or at the supermarket.
8. Dating native speakers
If you're still single, why hesitate without trying the "one-on-two" approach? Currently, there are many dating apps on mobile phones you can refer to to connect with native speakers of the opposite sex.
In the personal information section, share that you are trying to learn a foreign language, switch the language of the dating app into the country where you are learning the language and converse with the people you feel fit.
